I was pretty skeptical of this mascara. I have horrible luck with mascara (and anything that goes near my eyes). Everything burns my eyes or clumps or makes me itch or flakes everywhere…or all of the above. It looked promising and I’ve been dying to try all things Benefit and I saw that I had enough Birchbox points to preorder it. So, I did.
I’ve only tested it out. I haven’t worn it for a long time to know how it does with flaking or smearing or anything like that but I can say without a doubt that it doesn’t clump and once it dried rubbing my hand over my eyes didn’t smudge it.
I really like the hook and roll brush. It reminds me of a mascara I used years ago. I can’t remember the brand but it was some regular drug store brand that I could buy at Walmart and it was also curling. It has a similar brush. Although this mascara is thicker than that one was and has much more even coverage.
Just the not clumping factor makes me happy. It seems like most mascaras clump up on my lashes and then trying to get rid of the clumps smears it everywhere. Roller Lash went on smooth with no clumps and without wiping the brush first. I also did two layers and still no clumps.
It also did seem to curl my lashes a bit. I didn’t get to super dramatic results as far as curling goes but it DID curl them and they definitely look longer and thicker. I applied it while wearing no other makeup at all and it brightened and widened my eyes for sure.
Also, no burning or itching. Which for my sensitive eyes and skin is both surprising and important. And still no flaking or smearing after wearing it about an hour or so (and trying to smear it). The only downside I’ve noticed is that it does seem to sometimes make my eyelashes stick together when I blink. It isn’t bad enough to counteract all the good things about it but it is one drawback for sure. Still..
I’m a fan. I’ll keep using it. I’ll probably buy more when it runs out. It’s the best mascara I’ve found in years.
