We spent most of this past week at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with out daughter. She’s home now and much better but while we were staying in the hospital I got to try out lots of gluten free snacks that they offered in their cafeteria and cafes.
These cookies were one of the things they offered in their cafe. The Kona Cafe was open until 2am. So, it was our go to for midnight snacks. These cookies were packages individually with one medium sized cookie in each package. I can’t remember the price but I think it was something like $1.39.
The first one I tried was the Udi’s Snickerdoodle cookie. It smelled really good when I opened it. The cinnamon smelled strong and I like cinnamon. I usually love snickerdoodle cookies. These however were not the best. The taste didn’t live up to the smell. They were kind of bland. The texture was super sandy and a bit dry. I wasn’t impressed. Annie’s Snickerdoodle gluten free bunnies are much better.
After the snickerdoodle I almost didn’t buy the Chocolate Chip when I saw it the next night but I decided to give it a shot. My options of sweets weren’t vast. So, it was worth trying out.
Udi’s Chocolate Chip soft & chewy cookie was actually really good. I wouldn’t call it the best cookie I ever had but its much better than the Snickerdoodle. The texture is right for a soft chocolate chip cookie and the taste it good. It isn’t overly sweet like some gluten free cookies are. I really hate the habit of companies adding extra sugar to gluten free products. Udi’s isn’t one of the companies that are extremely guilty of doing this, though. Which is a good thing. The taste is slightly similar to Soft Batch cookies bit not quite as chocolatey. I would definitely buy these again.
Final Verdict = Chocolate Chip are 4 stars. Not the best cookie ever but pretty darn good. Snickerdoodle are 2 stars. Edible but would not be my first, second or even third choice if options are available.
I have no idea where to buy these cookies online. I was hoping Amazon would have them available but I don’t see them. So, if you are interested in trying them I guess just look around for them at local places that sell gluten free snacks.
